Cross-ventilation also makes a big difference. By opening windows or doors on different sides of the home to let cool air in, we can reduce indoor temperatures. For example, if your bedroom is situated on an upper floor or faces south or west, it’s likely one of the hottest rooms in the house – and with good reason. If relocating your bedroom to a cooler floor or orientation isn’t feasible, there are still plenty of other ways to stay cool. In addition to these strategies, homeowners can also consider using light-colored curtains or blinds to reflect sunlight and keep their homes cooler. Planting trees or installing awnings on south-facing walls can also help shade windows and reduce heat gain.
